Walk Against Warming

Saturday 4th November, 2006
2pm @ Queen's Park
Cnr George and Elizabeth Sts
Behind the Casino

Brisbane's Second Walk Against Warming

Join us on this second international day of action on climate change to show your support for a sustainable, climate-friendly future!

We as the community need to take action to demand appropriate policies in order to rein in our greenhouse emissions. While the task of converting to fossil-fuel free society may seem huge, it is not insurmountable!

Nuclear power and “clean” coal are not solutions to climate change. There are viable alternatives- wind, solar, geothermal and biomass which CAN help us reach these targets.

March from Queens Park, corner of George and Elizabeth Streets, Brisbane (starting 2pm) to the Musgrave Parklands, corner of Cordelia and Besant Streets, West End.

Bring family, friends, kids, bikes, umbrellas and windmills!!

There will be entertainment, speakers, food & stalls.

Organised by Climate Action Brisbane

For those who want to use public transport to get into the city, you can take a train to central Brisbane, then a 10 minute walk to Queens Park. For the return journey, public transport is available only 2 streets away from Musgrave Park at the Southbank Railway Station &
Busway.

But why walk against warming when one can do scientific research instead. Like for example the proof that Australia in fact is not even heating up at all: http://gustofhotair.blogspot.com/

Hi Jonathon,

Had a look at your blogspot; Gust of Hot Air. So, it seems you are an accredited academic with Honours, no less!

While it is admirable that you care to leave a comment, I can only feel concerned that you query why people would walk against warming?

Why not? We can't all be objective, dispassionate and learned people can we? Some of us are relegated by life and choices to be ordinary folk; your Coles Storemen, your rubbish collectors, your car mechanics etc.

Perhaps as ordinary people we feel that one of the only remaining avenues of protest in the Western World is via a show of public unity, simple congregation and accordingly we choose to participate.

Which in my opinion is far more worthwhile, practical and socially meaningful than running statistical analysis of numbers and making bold claims.

Which reminds me, you should really check out the website/blogspot owned/patroned by your recent visitor, revenant, who congratulated you for your efforts. revenant cites the website of CO2 Science as an authority on climate change and global warming.

Considering that the two major studies used by CO2 Science, have been recently discounted as inaccurate due to US-based climate scientists invalidating their base temperature date, it seem that CO2 Science contains more gusts of hot air than you.

And, I almost forgot, the Idso Brothers who run CO2 Science have in the past for worked for Western Fuels, USA and have also received funds from Exxon Mobil into an "independent" study of climate change.

Careful who you hang with ...

I assume the rain was a huge dampener (pardon the pun) on numbers for the Walk Against Warming in Brisbane today.

I just want to know will there be another in the near future? With nicer weather you would expect a larger turn out which would definately get more attention from the media, goverment etc.
